Join us for Alan Pell Crawford’s December 15 online lecture. He will discuss the American Revolution in the South, a subject too long overlooked by standard histories of the war. He will explore why this is the case—especially in our time—and why it was the case for previous generations. He will touch on the role of two wartime governors, Thomas Jefferson and, of course, Patrick Henry.
As the author of Unwise Passions, Crawford will also discuss Henry’s role as defense counsel in the 1793 trial of 18-year-old Nancy Randolph. Accused with her brother-in-law of murdering the child of their adulterous affair. Early American history is rich in irony, and Crawford will examine some of it as well.
