Hello everyone!
My name is Michelle Seddon, and I am the Community Engagement Coordinator at Patrick Henry’s Red Hill. I have lived in many places in my 54 years, yet I always find myself being drawn back to the beautiful landscapes of Virginia. I am the mother of two adult boys and blessed with an amazing daughter-in-law. I am a professional historian who started her academic and professional career later in life. In 2023, I graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a B.A. in American History and will complete my master’s in public history at Southern New Hampshire University in May 2025. My prior experiences in public history have allowed me to work as a historian, researcher, and interpreter in private historical homes and museums, as well as 2 years as a Park Ranger-Historian at Sky Meadows Historic State Park in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
I also completed a term-limited detail as a Park Ranger-Historian with the National Park Service, stationed at the James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Ohio. My work is expansive, covering multiple disciplines related to the profession of public history, land conservation, historic preservation, and museum-collection care and management. I am excited to jump into my new role as the Community Engagement Coordinator for Patrick Henry’s Red Hill. I will be involved in outreach and civic engagement efforts, visitor experience support, development and support of educational programming, and collaborating with staff on special events.
While away from work, I can be found hiking mountain trails and exploring historical places, battlefields, and museums with my loved ones and pups in tow. It is common to see me in any antique store, old bookstore, or nearby farmers market. I follow a personal philosophy: “History is reliable until the next great discovery.”
