Hello! My name is Lucia Butler, and I’m the Archaeologist at Red Hill. I grew up in Arizona but have lived in Virginia for several years now. I graduated from the College of William & Mary with a B.A. in Anthropology and became interested in archaeology after participating in the Dr. James W. Jordan Archaeology Field School and interning for an archaeology lab at William & Mary.
I joined the Red Hill team in 2021 as a Visitor Center Associate, then became Operations Admin Assistant in 2022. In 2023, as Red Hill begins on-site archaeological research, I’m starting as the site archaeologist. During the summer and fall, you can find me digging on the grounds (come say hello and see what we’re doing!), and other times of the year, I’ll be processing artifacts in the Administrative and Research Center.
When I’m not at work, I love reading, baking, and hiking.
