Born in Virginia in 1737, Robert Munford was an officer, legislator as well as a poet and playwright. He supported Patrick Henry’s resolutions against the Stamp Act in1765 and later served with Henry in the VA House of Delegates. Munford’s collection of plays and poems were published after his death in 1783 and was one of the last books PH purchased for his library. He likely used this book to teach his children poetry while at Red Hill and his children may have performed some of the plays for the family.
