Tarleton's Southside Raid


Banastre Tarleton!  The very name struck fear in the hearts of men familiar with the legend of Tarleton's Quarter.  This book is a definitive history of British Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton's raid throught southern Virginia (July 9-24, 1781) to destroy Virginia and Continental supply depots at the Amelia Court House, Prince Edward Court House, Charlotte Court House and New London in present day Campbell County.  It was in this raid that the legendary Peter Francisco single-handedly engaged nine of Tarleton's Dragoons near present day Crewe.  The work is based on official reacords, period correspomdence and regional oral traditions.

About the author

Col. Greg Eanes holds a B.S. in Occupational Education from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and a Master's in Military History from American Military University.  He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2011 having served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and post 9/11 combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A former journalist and educator he has served on a variety of faculties and adjunct faculties.  He taught history for the Randolph Henry High School (Charlotte County VA Public Schools) dual enrollment program and served as an adjunct history teacher for Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, VA.
